Hackathons are kind of our thing.

SnowShoe employees love hackathons. As mentioned in our earlier blog post, SnowShoers Claus Moberg, Matt Lea, and Matt Luedke are in San Francisco for the Developer Week Hackathon.  The guys all attended the weekend event and they formed two teams, each building off the SnowShoe Stamp’s SDK.

Matt Luedke’s team worked on building a fun new app called Bottlecaps, an app that “gamifies” loyalty for local bars.  The SnowShoe Stamp is used to confirm that a patron purchased a drink at the bar. Each purchase gives the patron the chance to play a simple game, allowing the them to earn points.

Points can later be cashed in for a free drink at the participating bar.  Other features include using maps to locate participating bars. The app will soon include the option of sharing points with friends. Matt and his team are also working to add more games.

Matt’s team is officially in the top 5, but we’ll have to wait until Wednesday to get the final results. Stay tuned! Check back tomorrow for a blog post about Claus and Matt Lea’s project–also a Top 5 finalist!
